I Need A Vacation
Today I had a quiz in my Theatre History class and so naturally punctuality was in order.
Now, Concordia is split into two campuses, with Loyola being in NDG, while I live over an hour away in the Plateau. This is perhaps an unwise move, given my penchant for tardiness. But each day I make the effort and usually succeed to breeze into class just in time.
This morning I left my house at 12: 20, which was pushing it a little bit considering I had to be in class at 1:15. But if the gods smiled down upon me and the bus I needed to catch pulled up immediately… which it did. But had I forgotten my bus pass, an object I routinely take with me and the most necessary item to ensure I reach my destination? Of course I had. I fumbled through my purse, mournfully watching the bus pull away from the curb. Only to discover I had, in fact, brought my bus pass. I ran after the lumbering vehicle at full speed, but to no avail.
But there was still the Parc bus, and while it meant I would have to transfer metro stations, at 12:22 I might still arrive on time. There was no way I would be treated to the same fate as the last bus and arrive just as it was pulling away…
But of course there was. Amongst a string of curses which alarmed a kindly elderly couple passing by, I determined I should take a cab to the metro station. It would cost five bucks which was a fair price to pay to be on time for the quiz, I figured. Once I sat in the cab I finally relaxed a bit. Then quickly tensed up when I realized I had forgotten my wallet. After my embarrassing admission to the driver that I had willingly entered a cab penniless was complete, I managed to run all the way to the metro station and make it on time after all. The only loss being several years of my life due to stress.
Now I am listening to Chopin with a cup of tea and promising myself that once I get back to Montreal after Thanksgiving weekend I will finally do all those lame but admittedly useful organizational things like writing down dates in my agenda and checking a goddamn clock every once in a while.
